Pet Travel Certificates & Assistance in Lahore

Everything your cat or dog needs from the vet before flying abroad.

Quick answer: Dr Alee’s Pet Clinic in Lahore prepares cats and dogs for travel abroad: fit-to-fly health certificates, microchipping, travel vaccinations and rabies titer blood tests. Book a travel consultation as soon as you know your date, because some countries need around four months of preparation.

Taking your pet abroad, for a move or a long stay, comes with strict rules. Most countries want the steps done in a set order and within set time limits, and a missed step can delay your trip by weeks or months. Our vets plan the whole process around your travel date.

How pet travel works, step by step

  1. Travel consultation. Tell us where and when you are travelling. We check what your destination and airline ask for and give you a written timeline.
  2. Microchip. If your pet is not chipped, we implant a microchip first. Countries such as the UK require the microchip before the rabies vaccine that counts for travel.
  3. Vaccinations. We give the rabies vaccine and any core vaccines your pet needs, timed so they are valid on your travel date.
  4. Rabies titer blood test, if needed. For countries that ask for it, we take a blood sample at least 30 days after the rabies vaccine and send it to an approved laboratory. The UK, for example, needs a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml and a three-month wait after the sample before travel.
  5. Health / fit-to-fly certificate. Close to departure, our vet examines your pet and signs a certificate confirming they are healthy and up to date on vaccines.
  6. Ready to fly. You leave with your pet’s records and a checklist of what to carry on the day.

Other documents you may need

Our vets handle the veterinary side. Some documents come from government offices or your airline, and we do not issue them:

  • Animal quarantine certificate. Issued by Pakistan’s Animal Quarantine Department before your pet leaves the country. They usually ask to see the health certificate and vaccination records we prepare.
  • Import permit. Some destination countries ask you to apply for one through their own government before you travel.
  • Destination country forms. Some countries use their own official health certificate form, which may need government endorsement.
  • Airline documents. Your pet’s booking with the airline, and an approved travel crate if your pet flies in the hold.

At your travel consultation we tell you which of these your destination needs, so you can apply for them in time.

Rules differ by country and change from time to time. The UK steps above follow UK government guidance on rabies blood tests; we confirm the current rules for your destination at the consultation.

Travel rules are strict about order and timing. A rabies vaccine given before the microchip, or a blood test taken too early, can mean starting again and delaying your trip by months. Our vets plan every step around your flight date so your pet’s paperwork is ready on time.

Frequently asked questions

How early should I start preparing my pet for travel?

As soon as you know your travel date. For countries that need a rabies blood test, such as the UK, allow at least four months: the blood sample is taken at least 30 days after the rabies vaccine, and travel can only happen three months after the sample.

What is a fit-to-fly certificate?

It is a health certificate signed by our vet after examining your pet, confirming they are healthy enough to travel and up to date on vaccinations. Airlines and countries set how recent it must be, so we time the examination to your flight.

Does my pet need a microchip to travel?

Many countries, including the UK and EU countries, require one. It must be implanted before the rabies vaccine that counts for travel, so it is usually the first step.

What is a rabies titer test?

It is a blood test that checks your pet’s rabies vaccine has worked. We take the sample at least 30 days after the rabies vaccine and send it to an approved laboratory. For the UK the result must be at least 0.5 IU/ml.

Can cats and dogs both travel?

Yes. The steps are similar for cats and dogs, although some countries add extra rules for dogs, for example a tapeworm treatment before entering the UK.

Do you book flights or arrange transport?

No. We handle the veterinary side: the examination, health certificate, microchip, vaccinations and rabies blood test. We will tell you which other documents your destination and airline ask for.

How much does pet travel preparation cost?

It depends on your destination and what your pet already has, such as a microchip or valid rabies vaccine. We give you a full quote at the travel consultation.

Do you provide the animal quarantine certificate or import permit?

No. The animal quarantine certificate is issued by Pakistan’s Animal Quarantine Department, and import permits come from the destination country. We prepare the veterinary documents they usually ask for, such as the health certificate and vaccination records, and tell you which other documents your destination needs.
